If the Broom Fits, Fly It!

Happy Monday!  It’s “happy” because I am off- Columbus Day here in the USA so schools are closed. I had a choice today to make a card or to grade papers so you can guess from the post which choice I made. Seriously, I will be sitting down to grade those papers in a bit but I so needed to take a break and spend time in my craft room!

For my card, I colored up a new Mo Manning digi image called “Hold on to your Hat”.  You can find her here at Mo’s Digital Pencil store.  I fell in love with her from the second Mo posted her, and what fun to color!  Since it is a black and white ink drawing, it really helps with those of us who may struggle with shading!  I also am a sucker for all things Halloween so she was perfect for my card.

I decided to try using Polychromos pencils with my copics, and so while the image is largely colored with copic markers, I did use my pencils to shade parts of the image, especially the cape. To achieve those dark shadows, I did use BV29 under the darkest shade in each color family to achieve the deepest color shading. I applied the BV29 where I wanted the darkest shading, then the darkest color used in each color family blend and then my other dark to light shades. I am sorry I did not save colors as I am often a madman with markers and use so many at a time that I do not chart them.

Since I printed the image rather large, I kept the embellishments to a bare minimum. The design papers are from Michele R Designs- Halloween 6×6 papers and Halloween Inserts. You know I just love the inserts for the inside of my cards!!  You can find these papers here on her ETSY store. These papers are gorgeous and are perfect for your cards, layouts and Halloween projects. Along with these two sets, there are matching 12×12 size papers and “Elements” that feature banners, bows and die cut sentiments!

My bats are cut from a MS bat punch and I dotted on eyes with my Sharpie fine point marker. The sentiment is a rubber stamp from Great Impressions that I have had for years! Last, all edges of my design paper were distressed with Black Soot Distress Ink.

That’s all for now…thanks so much for visiting and for all your kind comments here and on my facebook posts. This card is available in my ETSY shop!  Have a great day!
